Rose Quartz
Druid/Paladin
ARCHETYPE WIS/STR ABILITIES 11/20

Druid Abilities
Wild Shape (M)

Once per day, you can turn into a pink Ussuri black bear.
Create Bonfire (M)

You can use magic to create a small campfire at will.
Druidcraft (M)

You can use magic to create one of the following effects:

• You create a tiny, harmless sensory effect that predicts what the weather will be at your location for the next 24 hours. The effect might manifest as a golden orb for clear skies, a cloud for rain, falling snowflakes for snow, and so on.
• You instantly make a flower blossom, a seed pod open, or a leaf bud bloom.
• You create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as falling leaves, a puff of wind, the sound of a small animal, or the faint odor of skunk. The effect must fit in a 5-foot cube.
• You instantly light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
Animal Friendship (M)

You can use magic to charm a small creature to do one of the following:

• You send the creature to deliver a message to someone else you know, up to 1000 miles away.
• You create a companion that will stay by your side for 24 hours. It's demeanor will remain positive to you until the spell wears off.
• You compel the creature to perform simple tasks for you, such as scouting an area ahead, standing lookout, foraging for food, or moving objects it is capable of moving with its own strength.
Speak with Plants (M)

You can use magic to talk to plants and have discussions with them.
Thorn Whip (M)(P)

Extending from you up to 15 feet, you can summon a thorny vine to ensnare someone and tie them up. Retracting the vine like a leash will bring the ensnared creature closer to you.
Moonbeam (M)

You can use magic to harness the power of the moon. It creates a pillar of light that shapeshifters are unable to move out of. Anyone under the effects of a magical disguise walking in, or caught by, the moonbeam will have their true form revealed.
Shillelagh (M)

Touching a piece of wood makes it effectively strong as a sword and can be used in combat without fear of breaking.
Detect Poison and Disease (M)

You innately know when something is either poisoned or inflicted with a disease.
Goodberry (M)

Once per day, you have the ability to create up to 9 berries. When eaten, a berry restores the equivalent of a tiny amount of HP, as well as provides the same amount of sustenance for 1 full meal.
Canon Power

Flaming Sword (M)

You have the ability to channel divine energy into your sword, making it light with fire that does not damage you.
Perform Oath (M)(P)

You can swear your allegiance to someone and become their protector. The affected person must understand a Paladin's duty for this to work. Those who are protected under your wing will share a bond with you. They will be able to tell if you're hurt as well as your general location. The connection is two-way.
Divine Smite (M)

You can call upon the divine to rain down holy energy on a target.
Shield of Faith (M)

You can use magic to create a holy aura around another target that will take 1 blow for them.
Beastmaster Abilities
Ancestral Protectors (M)(C)

You call forth the spirit of an ancient shaman's wisdom to aid you in battle. For 10 minutes, 4 spectral beasts of your choosing join the battle. You command them to either: attack, carry, defend, or escape. While maintaining focus on this spell, you cannot channel any other spells, and a strong hit will break your concentration on keeping it active.
Consult the Spirits (M)

Once per mission or interlude, you may ask the mods a question affecting the outcome of a choice you make or an event that is fated to come. Roll a 1d20. On a 1-10, the mods may provide information that is partially true or cryptic. On a roll of 11-20, they will answer truthfully, to the best of their current knowledge.
Find Griffin

As part of your training, you've earned the respect and allegiance of a large griffin that may be mounted. It is linked to your spirit and can heed your call. Your whistle calls them to you, provided you are in a clearing large enough to allow it to land. The griffin is a living creature and can take damage, must eat and drink to retain health, and can perish in battle if targeted.
Healing Spirit (M)(C)

You call forth a nature spirit to soothe the wounded. The intangible spirit appears in a space that is a 5-foot cube you can see within range, lasting up to 1 minute. The spirit looks like a transparent beast or fey (your choice). Until the spell ends, whenever you or a creature you can see moves into the spirit's space, it regains a significant amount of health back. While maintaining focus on this spell, you cannot channel any other spells, and a strong hit will break your concentration on keeping it active.
Spiritual Form (M)(P)(C)

You have the ability to split a part of your consciousness from your body while you are awake, for up to one hour per day. It can travel up to 100 miles from your current location. You can sense, see, and hear from both states of being, although your spirit form cannot interact with the world around it in a physical way. As an action, you may inhabit the body of another animal or beast and compel it to take actions by commanding it. If the animal you are currently inhabiting is forced to take an action that endangers itself, it may resist your influence. While maintaining focus on this spell, you cannot channel any other spells, and a strong hit will break your concentration on keeping it active.

Rose Quartz: But you, you're supposed to change. You're never the same even moment to moment--you're allowed and expected to invent who you are. What an incredible power--the ability to "grow up."

Three key adjectives: compassionate, whimsical, self-loathing

Influential Events:
before getting a colony
Rose was created (gems aren't born) as Pink Diamond, youngest of the four gems in the Diamond Authority. This basically makes her a space princess. The smallest and one with the least actual authority of the four, Pink Diamond often played a role of entertainer with the other diamonds. She would occasionally visit the other Diamonds' colonies, particularly Yellow's and Blue's, and had a fascination with organic life as pets. Being less interested than her sisters in following the rigid stratification of gem society, as well as being generally immature, she was subjected to quite a bit of abuse, including being struck with magic, being locked away in isolation, and even having her Pearl (another living gem) damaged, taken from her, and brainwashed.

So, that's a lot. These thousands of years were Pink's formative life experiences. At this point in her life Pink is at her most mercurial; she views organic life as entertaining, and wants non-diamond gems to talk to her like a normal gem, but she also views organics as pets and non-diamond gems as playmates but not as exactly equal to herself (she abandoned her designated best friend gem, Spinel, when she was given her colony), even if she's better about that than the other diamonds. Pink has a lot of frustration and anger issues here--she is expected to adhere to a rigid class structure that gives her very specific things to do that she was literally made for, but the other Diamonds treat her as not as important or worthy of respect as them. And they don't respect her; the situation with her sisters is absolutely abusive, with them dismissing her interests and concerns at best and harming her physically and emotionally at worst. At this point, what Pink Diamond wants most is respect from her sisters--she's supposed to be as important as them, and she wants to be treated that way. It's this lack of respect and equal treatment, alongside her fascination with organic life, that lays the groundwork for her later improved opinions on other gems and lifeforms. She knows what it's like to feel like you should be receiving equal treatment and not getting it, even if it's in a different way.

To sum it up in another example, there's a whole kind of gem called "pebbles" that Pink Diamond brought to life by spending significant time weeping over a bowl of rocks, and they hide from anyone except her because she's the only one who treats them nicely even though she also has them rearrange her room for her. Thaaaat's Pink's life!

colonizing Earth
Eventually, Pink manages to annoy Yellow Diamond enough into giving Pink her first colony--planet Earth. Pink begins colonization, excited to be creating life in the form of other gems, but also frustrated at being forced by the other diamonds to stay on a base on the moon. Her new Pearl suggests she disguise herself as a Rose Quartz to be able to go down to explore her colony. In doing this, she discovers the life she is creating along with the life she will destroy if she continues her colonization.

Pink shows a continued interest in being able to interact with others and be treated like them. She has spent her life feeling isolated and treated as different, so of course she jumps at the chance to disguise herself and be treated just like one of the other quartz gems. When she does go down to the kindergarten, where gems are made, the first thing she says to a newly-emerged quartz is "Welcome to Earth"! She has a genuine fondness for others, even if she hasn't ever been taught that it's appropriate.

When Pearl takes Pink around Earth, Pink gets to see all the organic life there. She sees and loves the plants and animals there, including humans. When seeing this, she realizes that her colonization is actually draining and killing all the life that currently lives on Earth. It's very important to Rose's character that when Pearl apologizes for showing her all this, Pink says she needed to see this. She still has a lot of growing to do, but even now, with all of her socialization as a diamond and her desire for her sisters' respect weighing on her, she recognizes that organic life on Earth is important and that her colonization is wrong.

rebellion
Pink asks, then begs, her sisters to let her stop colonizing Earth to spare the life there. They refuse, treating her as if she's just trying to abandon her responsibilities, making an artificial zoo for her, and eventually taking over running the colony, leaving Pink as a puppet queen just expected to smile and wave. Pink realizes they won't ever take her seriously, so she again assumes the form of Rose Quartz and starts a rebellion against herself--they can ignore Pink Diamond, so she'll give them a threat they can't ignore.

Along with driving home just how little respect the other Diamonds have for her, this shows that Pink is willing to put her foot down and actually do something. In taking on the form of Rose Quartz, she and Pearl actively fight the various gems of the planet, staging guerrilla attacks and trying to be enough of a threat to scare all the gems off of Earth. Later, she will be known as a brilliant strategist and frightening warrior, leading a whole group of gems. Right now, the life of Earth is her only concern, and this is important. Her fascination for organic life has grown to a desire to protect it, and that remains her foremost concern.

Ruby and Sapphire's first fusion
While staging another attack, Rose and Pearl witness Ruby and Sapphire fuse together into Garnet, which is the first known fusion of two different types of gems. This opens up a whole new world to Rose, and when Garnet appears to her again, she decides to change her rebellion to include a place on Earth for "incorrect" gems like Garnet.

Up until now, Rose had only been fighting to get rid of all the gems on Earth. She views gems as unchanging creatures and all of them as dangerous to the planet. On seeing Garnet, she sees a whole new way gems can exist. This fusion, born out of love instead of necessity, shows Rose that there are also gems who need protection from gem society. This is when Rose's rebellion begins growing in earnest--it was all inspired by Garnet. Rose begins to recruit other gems who want to live in a more free society, leading them as the Crystal Gems and promising them a life on Earth where they can be themselves instead of whatever gem society wants them to be.

poofing Bismuth
One of the gems who joined Rose's rebellion was Bismuth, an extremely talented weaponsmith. She is the one who created Rose's sword, which was specifically designed to poof instead of shatter (kill) gems. Eventually, though, Bismuth decided that since the Diamonds wouldn't fight fair, they shouldn't either, and created the Breaking Point, which was specifically designed to shatter even diamonds. Rose rejected it, the two came to blows, and Rose poofed Bismuth. She hid Bismuth's gem away and told no one what happened.

Rose doesn't want to kill--even if she is fighting the other Diamonds, they are essentially her family, and so the feelings there are complicated--but she also doesn't want to tell anyone the whole truth. Rose keeps a lot of secrets. Bismuth, and indeed all of the Crystal Gems except Pearl, didn't know she was Pink Diamond. Not even Pearl was told of the argument she had with Bismuth, the Breaking Point, or that Rose had poofed Bismuth and hidden her gem away. Rose tries to do a lot of things on her own and doesn't expect to be supported in her actions. She is prone to wanting to run from the pain in her life and trying to protect others by hiding things from them. The other, extremely important thing to note about her secrets is that Rose doesn't like herself very much. She thinks of herself as a bad person playing at being good, and she doesn't think that anyone would like her if they knew all of her--after all, look at how her sisters treated her for thousands of years for being herself. One very important reason Rose hides things is because she thinks people will hate her if they find out.

shattering Pink Diamond
Eventually it becomes clear that as long as Pink Diamond exists, the war will continue, because it's Pink's colony. Thus, Pink conspires with Pearl to fake her own shattering, reasoning that if she's no longer there, Earth will be left alone. Pearl shapeshifts into Rose Quartz and uses Rose's sword to poof Pink Diamond, who created a fake shattered diamond beforehand. Unfortunately, Pink didn't realize how angry and upset her sisters would be--they hit Earth with a beam meant to destroy all gems on the planet. Rose can only get Pearl and Garnet behind her shield in time; while it corrupts all the other Crystal Gems instead of killing them, it's still a horrific ending.

First, this continues to show how little Rose thinks of herself and her sisters' opinions of her. She says outright that Yellow and Blue, who are leading the war effort, don't care about her, and she absolutely believes that. In fact, this is core to her miscalculation--it's precisely that Blue and Yellow did in fact love her and wanted to get revenge for her "death" that caused them to corrupt all the other gems. Still, it's unlikely even after that that Rose believed they actually cared about her instead of that they were simply angry about having lost.

Rose also, in utilizing Pearl, gives her one last order as a diamond: to never speak of this again. This renders Pearl literally incapable of telling anyone that Rose was Pink or that the shattering was faked. In the future, this causes endless amounts of trouble and trauma for Pearl and those around her. It's another case of Rose not thinking things through and trying to run from her past. She doesn't do this to hurt Pearl, she does this because she doesn't want to ever think about having been Pink Diamond, who everyone hates and who everyone should hate, again.

relationship with Greg
Many, many years pass. Rose enters into various just for fun relationships with humans, but never treats them as equals or takes any of the relationships seriously. Eventually she meets Greg Universe and enters into a relationship with him. Eventually, he calls her out on this behavior, and Rose improves. Eventually, they decide to have a child.

Rose loves humans, but she doesn't take them seriously. She's grown a lot more mature, but while she doesn't treat them exactly like pets, she still treats them like fun, temporary playthings. Still, she does think it's all in good fun and that the humans are enjoying themselves too--when Greg calls her out on it and tells her that the feelings are like torture, she immediately apologizes. This is the first time someone has ever called her out on this kind of behavior. The other diamonds treated her as an annoying little sister. Her subjects as Pink Diamond treated her as some sort of goddess. Even the other Crystal Gems put her on a pedestal as some sort of perfect leader. It's only Greg who actually demands and expects to be treated equally. He's willing to work with her as she figures it out, and this is why she ends up falling in love with Greg as deeply as she does. She's always wanted someone to treat her equally like this. We still see signs in her of her self-loathing: she loves that humans can change and gems cannot (even though she has grown a lot over the years) and she continues to keep many secrets. She doesn't even tell Greg that she's Pink Diamond.

In deciding to have a child, Rose Quartz is willing to give up her form forever--basically, she will die in order for this half human, half gem child to be born. She is willing to make this sacrifice. And, while there is a lot to be said about her running away and leaving problems for others, it's important to know that this decision was made out of love for the child that would eventually be. She didn't expect for her problems to come back onto what would eventually be Steven. She wanted to have a child who would be able to experience living as a human being, which she viewed as the most amazing species she'd ever met. Even if Rose didn't ever see it in herself, she was a gem who loved others incredibly powerfully, just like everyone would say of her later.
